India’s preeminent retail non-banking finance company, Bajaj Finance Limited, has announced its financial results for the second quarter ended September 30, 2026 (Q2 FY27), posting a 28.68% year-on-year (YoY) growth in consolidated net profit to ₹6,367 crore, compared to ₹4,948 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

The stellar performance was driven by aggressive loan book originations and resilient asset quality, which propelled the lender’s consolidated Assets Under Management (AUM) past ₹5.84 lakh crore.

Balance-Sheet Scale and Core Operating Velocity

Bajaj Finance continued to outpace the broader banking sector in credit origination and customer franchise expansion:

  • Assets Under Management (AUM): Total AUM expanded 26% YoY to ₹5,84,624 crore, reflecting sustained traction across consumer durables, personal loans, SME finance, and rural lending.
  • Net Interest Income (NII): NII climbed 23.64% YoY to ₹13,335 crore (up from ₹10,785 crore in Q2 FY26).
  • Benchmark Asset Quality: Countering concerns over unsecured retail credit stress, Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) compressed 18 basis points YoY to 1.06%, while Net NPAs stood at an exceptional 0.42% (down from 0.60%).

₹17,500 Crore Capital Raise and Street Reaction

Alongside the quarterly results, the Board evaluated a proposal to raise up to ₹17,500 crore via Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) and/or preferential warrants to promoter entities (Bajaj Finserv):

  • Capital Buffer: The proposed equity raise is intended to fortify Tier-1 capital adequacy and fund the next growth phase across its digital omni-channel platform and housing finance subsidiary.
  • Market Friction: Despite the 29% PAT jump, Bajaj Finance shares experienced a 3% to 4% pullback. Institutional brokerages flagged potential Return on Equity (RoE) dilution from the upcoming capital injection alongside minor Net Interest Margin (NIM) compression resulting from elevated systemic cost of funds.
