The Rebirth of Reliance Securities: Why Rajeev R. Srivastava’s Elevation Marks a New Era for IndusInd Capital

Operating under IndusInd Capital and parent entity IndusInd International Holdings Ltd (IIHL)—the investment arm of the Hinduja Group—this move represents the realization of IIHL’s landmark ~₹9,650 crore resolution of Reliance Capital under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).

Institutional Pedigree Meets Domain Continuity

In Srivastava, IIHL has chosen an executive with both institutional pedigree and deep familiarity with the underlying franchise. Bringing nearly 25 years of cross-functional experience across banking, wealth, and securities, Srivastava most recently served as the MD & CEO of Standard Chartered Securities (India).

Crucially, his prior senior leadership tenures span HDFC Securities, ICICI Bank, and earlier leadership at Reliance Securities itself. This gives him an insider's understanding of the branch network's historical distribution strength, paired with the risk discipline of premier global and private banking institutions.

The Macro Shift: The Post-F&O Wealth Era

The timing of IndusInd Securities' relaunch coincides with a structural transition across Indian capital markets. The discount broking explosion—which added over 100 million retail demat accounts primarily through zero-brokerage models and hyperactive index options—is encountering sharp regulatory friction.

With SEBI tightening derivatives trading rules (higher contract sizes, reduced expiries, and stricter margin requirements), transactional revenue models are compressing. The market is pivoting back to where long-term profitability resides: comprehensive wealth planning, mutual funds, portfolio management services (PMS), and Margin Trading Facilities (MTF).
