The Competition Commission of India has approved a ₹750 crore investment by private equity firm Kedaara Capital into Axis Finance Limited, a wholly-owned NBFC subsidiary of Axis Bank.
This is the first time Axis Finance has raised primary capital from an external investor since its inception, ending a period of sole ownership by its parent bank.
The fresh capital is expected to fuel Axis Finance's expansion into high-yield segments, specifically retail lending and MSME financing, according to the post.
Bringing in a top-tier PE firm also sets an independent, premium market valuation for the subsidiary, which the post says unlocks value for parent Axis Bank.
The transaction is being read as a signal that external PE capital can push a bank-backed NBFC toward the operational agility typically associated with standalone NBFCs.
