Private sector lender RBL Bank, a subsidiary of Emirates NBD, has posted a 170% year-on-year (YoY) surge in net profit to ₹482 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2026 (Q2 FY27), powered by robust credit expansion, higher net interest income, and large-scale FCNR(B) deposit mobilisation.

Balance Sheet Expansion and the ₹32,472 Crore FCNR(B) Boost

RBL Bank’s headline balance sheet recorded sharp expansion in Q2 FY27, with total deposits rising 34% YoY to ₹1.56 lakh crore (₹1,562.72 billion) and net advances surging 42% YoY to ₹1.42 lakh crore.

A significant catalyst during the quarter was the bank’s mobilisation of ₹32,472 crore ($3.4 billion) under the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) FCNR(B) swap facility, against which its International Banking Unit (IBU) extended ₹10,309 crore in loans as of September 30, 2026.

  • Underlying Growth Momentum: Excluding the FCNR(B)-linked component, MD & CEO R. Subramaniakumar noted that underlying loan growth remained strong at ~30% YoY, while underlying deposit growth stood at 6% YoY (with retail term deposits up 16% and average CASA at ~24%).
  • Deployment-Linked Liability Strategy: "We will raise deposits only to the extent of deployment. We will not be raising deposits just for the sake of raising deposits," Subramaniakumar stated, adding that the ~30% underlying credit growth will remain the bank’s baseline going forward.

Pivot to Secured Lending and Sharper Asset Quality

  1. Decisive Mix Shift: Wholesale advances jumped 56% YoY and secured retail advances surged 52% YoY, whereas unsecured retail advances grew a calibrated 6% YoY.
  2. Asset Quality Gains: Gross NPA (GNPA) declined 28 bps sequentially to 1.02% (from 1.30% in Q1 FY27), while Net NPA (NNPA) stood at 0.29%. Total credit cost for the quarter was 63 basis points, including an 11-bps standard asset provision.
