Federal Bank has announced the acquisition of a select credit card portfolio comprising around 4.5 lakh cards from Standard Chartered Bank in India. The transaction will be executed through a deed of assignment and remains subject to customary approvals and regulatory processes.
The portfolio consists primarily of standalone credit card customers—those without broader banking relationships at Standard Chartered. This distinction is significant: Federal Bank is acquiring customers with limited cross-sell potential at their current institution, but room for deepening relationships.
