Elias George has been approved by the Reserve Bank of India to serve as chairman of Federal Bank for a three-year tenure beginning May 23, 2026. The appointment marks a transition from his current role as Independent Director on the bank's board, a position he has held since September 2023.

George's career spans the Indian Administrative Service, where he held senior positions including Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Kerala and Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. His background in public policy and large-scale infrastructure delivery brings administrative depth to the banking leadership role.

The bank has positioned the appointment as reinforcing its focus on compliance standards, risk mitigation, and regulatory alignment. Federal Bank continues expanding its retail footprint and digital partnerships across India, and the new chairman's policymaking experience is expected to provide strategic oversight during this growth phase.

The continuity from his existing board tenure signals no disruption to Federal Bank's governance transition and operations.
