The Reserve Bank of India has completed its supervisory review of HDFC Bank and found no governance or conduct-related issues, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said. The central bank examined relevant records, including board meeting minutes, and identified no material concerns related to ethics, conduct, or governance.
The clarification arrives in the wake of Atanu Chakraborty's resignation as HDFC Bank's chairman, which had prompted market questions about the bank's internal health. The RBI's statement now provides institutional reassurance on that front.
Based on its assessment, the RBI emphasizes that HDFC Bank remains stable and well-managed. The supervisory finding is material for stakeholders and the wider banking ecosystem, as it signals confidence in one of India's largest private lenders.
