Visa has officially launched Visa Payment Passkey in India. IDFC FIRST Bank is the first issuer to roll out the solution to its cardholders.
Instead of typing in an OTP sent by SMS, customers can now authenticate eligible online card transactions using Face ID, fingerprint, or their device PIN.
Visa frames this as part of a broader shift from password-based payments to device-based trust, where the smartphone itself becomes the authentication key.
For banks, merchants, and fintech companies, the stated benefits include faster checkout, fewer abandoned transactions, stronger protection against phishing and OTP fraud, and higher transaction success rates.
