In a significant move to accelerate insurance penetration beyond India's metropolitan centers, Shriram General Insurance (SGI) has announced a strategic corporate agency partnership with leading non-banking financial company (NBFC) SK Finance Limited.

Through this corporate agency alliance, Shriram General Insurance will distribute its extensive portfolio of general insurance solutions across SK Finance’s network of over 700 branches and allied distribution touchpoints nationwide.

Unlocking Point-of-Financing Insurance in Bharat

The alliance brings together two major financial institutions with deep-rooted presence in semi-urban, rural, and emerging commercial corridors.

SK Finance, which specializes in financing commercial vehicles, passenger cars, tractors, two-wheelers, and micro-enterprises, provides Shriram General Insurance with an immediate captive funnel of borrowers seeking asset protection at the exact moment of loan origination.

"Insurance is an important enabler of financial resilience, particularly for customers in rural and semi-urban markets, where access to comprehensive protection solutions can play a meaningful role in safeguarding their financial journeys," said Rajendra Kumar Setia, Managing Director and CEO of SK Finance Limited.

Echoing this sentiment, Aftab Alvi, Executive Director and Chief Marketing Officer at Shriram General Insurance, emphasized that the collaboration combines SGI’s specialized risk underwriting with SK Finance’s high-touch physical branch architecture to bridge the rural non-life protection deficit.

Operational Architecture: Distribution vs. Underwriting

The partnership establishes a clear division of operational responsibilities to maintain customer experience and regulatory compliance:

  • Distribution & Point of Sale: SK Finance will utilize its branch relationship managers and digital customer channels to offer relevant insurance products bundled alongside vehicle financing and SME credit.
  • Underwriting & Policy Issuance: Shriram General Insurance will manage product design, actuarial underwriting, risk pricing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Claims Servicing: SGI will directly handle policy claims, settlements, and customer service requests through its centralized, digital claims management infrastructure.
