SBI Mutual Fund (SBI Funds Management Limited), the country’s largest asset management company, has appointed former TransUnion CIBIL Chief Financial Officer Amol Joshi as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO)ET BFSI reported.

Joshi is currently undergoing formal corporate induction at the asset manager and will officially assume charge of the finance function on October 1, 2026.

The appointment comes shortly after Joshi stepped down from his role at credit information provider TransUnion CIBIL in August 2026, where he had served as CFO since December 2021 after succeeding Rajeev Mantri.

A 28-Year Blueprint Across Banking, NBFCs, and Credit Infrastructure

Amol Joshi brings over 28 years of extensive experience in corporate finance, capital allocation, treasury, and board-level risk governance across premier financial institutions in India:

  • TransUnion CIBIL (2021–2026): Led financial operations, strategic planning, and fiscal compliance for India's leading credit bureau and data analytics company.
  • IndoStar Capital Finance: Served as Chief Financial Officer, steering balance-sheet management and capital-raising initiatives.
  • L&T Financial Services: Held the senior role of Group Head – Finance, overseeing corporate reporting and financial architecture across multiple lending verticals.
  • Standard Chartered Bank: Spent over a decade in diverse leadership roles across corporate finance, business finance, and financial controls.

A Chartered Accountant (CA) by qualification, Joshi’s career spans the full spectrum of wholesale banking, retail non-banking finance, and fintech-enabled credit infrastructure.

Steering India’s Largest Asset Management Engine

SBI Mutual Fund stands as the undisputed titan of the Indian asset management industry, commanding an Average Assets Under Management (AAUM) well in excess of ₹10 Lakh Crore (₹10+ Trillion).

A joint venture between the country's largest commercial bank, State Bank of India (63%), and Europe’s leading asset manager, Amundi India Holding (37%), the fund house caters to tens of millions of retail and institutional investors.

Managing a fund house of this magnitude requires sophisticated balance-sheet management, margin optimization across active and passive funds, and adherence to increasingly rigorous capital and fee regulations instituted by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

The Post-IPO Governance Imperative

The timing of Joshi’s induction is strategically aligned with the asset manager's corporate evolution.

SBI Funds Management recently made its landmark debut on the stock exchanges following a blockbuster ₹9,813-crore Initial Public Offering (IPO), which saw overwhelming demand and was subscribed over 41 times.

Transitioning from a closely held joint venture into a publicly traded corporate heavyweight exposes the asset manager to heightened quarterly reporting scrutiny, institutional analyst disclosures, and minority shareholder accountability. Bringing in a battle-tested CFO like Joshi provides crucial institutional stability and strategic capital allocation capabilities.
