Google has broken ground on a $15 billion AI data centre and cloud hub in Visakhapatnam, one of the largest digital infrastructure investments in India to date. The project was launched in the presence of N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
The facility is expected to scale to approximately 5 GW capacity, positioning it among the most ambitious data centre developments globally. This scale signals Google's commitment to meeting India's growing demand for cloud computing and AI-driven applications.
This investment reflects a structural shift in how global tech leaders view India. The country is now seen as a core market for AI workloads and cloud demand, not merely a cost-arbitrage destination. India is being treated as a strategic geography for hyperscale infrastructure deployment.
For Andhra Pradesh, the development places Visakhapatnam firmly on the map as a next-generation AI and cloud hub. The downstream effects are expected to span job creation, ecosystem development, and sustained capital inflows into the region.
Large-scale data centre infrastructure of this magnitude typically catalyses broader digital ecosystem growth, from talent clusters to ancillary service providers. Google's move signals confidence in India's regulatory environment and long-term digital economy trajectory.
