PhonePe has promoted its Head of Engineering, Srijon Biswas, to Chief Technology Officer. He now runs day-to-day engineering operations for the company.
Co-founder Rahul Chari moves into an expanded role as Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO), shifting focus to strategic product integration across PhonePe's ecosystem.
For years, PhonePe's engineering team had one core mandate: scale UPI transactions to handle massive volumes. That same team now also runs a wealth management business (Share.Market), an insurance vertical, a merchant lending platform, and a hyper-local e-commerce app (Pincode).
The company frames this as a structural response to rising product complexity — technology can no longer be managed as a single, centralized funnel once a business spans this many verticals.
This marks a shift from founder-driven codebase management to institutional, delegated engineering leadership — a step PhonePe describes as the natural evolution for a tech company at this scale.
